In May 2013, Elisa adopted two mustangs at auction in Murfreesboro, TN in order to compete at the Mustang Million, September 16 – 22, 2013 in Fort Worth, TX. Since then, Elisa has made excellent progress with both horses, which we have been chronicling every week. The competition is quickly approaching, and we are now kindly asking for your support.
The trip from Jasper, GA to Fort Worth, TX (approx. 900 mi) will take about 13 hours, divided over two days. Once in Fort Worth, the competition lasts 7 days (September 16 – 22). To assist with the cost of transportation, accommodation, feed, hay, and other expenses, we are hoping to raise $5,000 by the time Elisa leaves for the competition.
Please donate by clicking the button. Every little bit helps, and we will be publishing the names of all those who are supporting Elisa in her journey (If you would like to donate anonymously, please indicate this in the notes section when you submit your donation). Corporate sponsors, please direct your inquiries to Timothy Harfield, firstname.lastname@example.org.
What is the Mustang Million?
From September 16 – 22, 2013 the Mustang Heritage Foundation will present the largest mustang training showcase and competition of its kind. The event will feature a thousand eligible mustangs and offer cash and prizes valued at a million dollars. Elisa and her mustangs, Rune and Nimh, will be compete in the Legends Division against the likes of Bobby Kerr, Mary Miller Jordan, and Drew Olsen. Competition is stiff, but if her winning performance at the 2012 Extreme Mustang Makeover in Clemson, SC is any indication, Elisa’s chances of making it into the finals are very high.
The Extreme Mustang Makeover is an exciting national wild horse training event created by The Mustang Heritage Foundation, in cooperation with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), to show the beauty, versatility and trainability of the amazing animals currently in holding facilities. These events give the public a unique opportunity to see the results of wild horses becoming trained mounts and companions.
About Rune & Nimh
Rune is a 3 year old, 14.3 hh chestnut gelding from Piceance / East Douglas, Colorado. Rune is very outgoing and curious. Elisa picked him in order to hopefully transition into a three-day eventing career after the competition.
Nimh is a 3 year old, 14.2 hh chestnut gelding from Jackson Mountains, Navada. Nimh is sweet, gentle-natured. He started of as a more reserved, internal-type of horse, but now has come out of his shell. He will be available after the mustang million to only the perfect home.
About Elisa Wallace
Elisa Wallace is an established and well-respected equestrian who, since she began riding at the age of two, has ridden and competed successfully in a variety of English disciplines including dressage, hunter/jumpers, and, her specialty, three-day eventing. Elisa has won numerous prestigious titles, and has been featured in such magazines as Chronicle of the Horse, Eventing USA Magazine, Young Rider’s Magazine, and Modern Arabian Horse Magazine. She is also regularly featured by international blog sites Eventing Nation, and Horse Junkies United.
Training a mustang had been a life-long dream of Elisa’s when she was encouraged by Rebecca Bowman (Rose Equestrian) to enter the 2012 Extreme Mustang Makeover in Clemson, SC. Her Mustang Fledge is a horse of a lifetime, a talented and trusted friend, whom Elisa bought at auction following the competition (which they won). As a result of her experience with Fledge, and her participation in the Extreme Mustang Makeover program, Elisa has become an outspoken advocate for the American mustang, promoting its potential in all disciplines, and especially those English riding disciplines in which mustangs are traditionally under-represented. Through her participation in the Mustang Million competition, and in producing regular video updates that highlight her mustangs’ talent and good natures, Elisa is doing all she can to bring positive attention to the breed, and to the good work of the Mustang Heritage Foundation, especially at a time when sequestration threatens the future of the Extreme Mustang Makeover and other similar adoption initiatives.
